Although there are ten separate Medigap plans, insurance carriers choose which options they provide to their customers. Most carriers offer 2-4 options. BCBS offers seven.

BCBS Medigap Plan A 

Medigap Plan A is the most basic of all ten supplemental plans. The only gap that this plan covers is your Medicare Part B 20% coinsurance. Plan A is the lowest cost Medigap option. This low monthly premium can easily fit into any budget. Blue Cross Blue Shield Medigap Plan A is for individuals on a tight budget and cannot afford the premium of more robust policies

BCBS Medigap Plan F

Medigap Plan F is the most popular Medigap policy and has been for many years. However, in 2020 Medicare discontinued Plan F and is no longer available to individuals new to Medicare. Anyone previously enrolled in Medigap can still purchase a Plan F policy.

BCBS Medigap Plan G

Medigap Plan G is the second most popular supplement plan. It covers all the gaps in Medicare except for the annual Part B deductible of $185. In exchange for paying this yearly deductible, the premiums for Plan G are much lower than Plan F.  

BCBS Medigap Plan G is the best choice for individuals looking for comprehensive health insurance coverage.

BCBS Medigap Plan K 

Medigap Plan K is the least popular supplement plan; however, it provides excellent benefits to the right individuals. Plan K is a cost-sharing plan in which you share all out-of-pocket medical expenses between the insurance company at 50%.  

If you enroll in BCBS Medigap Plan K, you’ll pay 50% of your Medicare Part A deductible, your Part A coinsurance, skilled nursing care coinsurance, Part B coinsurance, and blood up to 3 pints. 

Very few carriers offer Plan K, which can make it tricky to find quotes. However, BCBS does offer this plan, and we’d love to assist you with a personalized quote. 

BCBS Medigap Plan L

Medigap Plan L is the second of the two cost-sharing plan options. This plan is essentially the same as Plan K; however, the cost-sharing is at 75% rather than 50%. Cost-sharing plans would be much more popular if people understood how they work. Blue Cross Blue Shield Medigap Plan L is an excellent fit for moderately healthy individuals who would rather pay 25% of all out-of-pocket expenses than a high monthly premium.

BCBS Medigap Plan N 

Medigap Plan N is the third most popular supplement plan amongst baby boomers today. This plan covers most of the gaps in Medicare except for your Part B deductible and any Part B excess charges. 

Blue Cross Blue Shield Medigap Plan N is a robust policy that costs much less than Plan F or Plan G. 

BCBS Medigap Plan F High Deductible

Medigap Plan F High Deductible is a high deductible version of Plan F. 

Plan F has been so popular that Medicare created a high deductible version.  Keep in mind that only individuals previously enrolled in Medicare Supplement insurance can purchase Plan F policies.

Blue Cross Blue Shield high deductible Plan F is an excellent policy for healthy individuals who are interested in exchanging a high monthly premium for an annual deductible.

Medicare Advantage Plans are an all-in-one bundled solution for your health insurance. These plans cover the same gaps that Medicare Supplements do; however, they also extend your Medicare benefits to include vision, dental, and prescription drug coverage.
